We are delighted to again be offering funded Teacher Subject Specialism Training (TSST) in Secondary Mathematics in 2019/20.
Our Teacher Subject Specialism Training (TSST) in Secondary Mathematics provides free, high quality professional development to enable and support non-specialist teachers to teach Secondary Mathematics.
The focus of the year long programme is to increase subject knowledge and subject specific pedagogy across all topic areas and key stages to enable non-specialist teachers to teach mathematics. There is no cost to attend and following successful completion your school can claim cover costs for the 2 full days required out of school. This is a great CPD option for non-specialists currently teaching, or transitioning to teaching mathematics.
The programme consists of an initial full day training, followed by 10 twilight sessions across the year, and enrolment on an online SKE course led by Plymouth University. School mentors will facilitate the teaching of mathematics lessons back at the participant’s school (participants who do not have the opportunity at their own school, may be allocated a school to work with). There will be a further full day session to focus on pedagogy, opportunities to observe, and reflection on mathematics teaching at Churchill. All sessions are delivered by NCETM Accredited Professional Development Leads.
Participants who complete the TSST will be awarded a certificate of completion from the Great North Maths Hub. Further reflective writing can lead into 30 credit Master’s Degree modules though CIMT, Plymouth University; Please contact us for further information on this.
