The Great North Maths Hub seeks to extend and strengthen its work supporting Secondary schools in Sunderland and Gateshead. We are therefore now seeking to recruit one or two Secondary Assistant Maths Hub Leads (AMHL) to join our established leadership and management team. The posts will have a time commitment of one day per week each, or the option of one person working for two days a week, with allowance for flexibility in the days to allow this to work around other commitments and school timetables..
The Assistant Maths Hub Lead(s) will work as part of the Maths Hub Leadership and Management Team, normally for the equivalent of two days a week with a particular focus in the local authorities and secondary schools of Gateshead and Sunderland. Initially, the funding for these roles will run from June 2020 to December 2020, with the potential to be extended. Given the current climate, if June 2020 is not possible, we will work with applicants to agree an appropriate start date in the Autumn term.
The working pattern can be discussed further to fit with school needs and could involve condensing days over the employment period.
The role will involve working closely with schools in Gateshead and Sunderland, and will include:
supporting recruitment of desired number and type of schools to the Maths Hub activity, including engaging directly with school leadership in hard to reach schools
acting as the public face of the Maths Hub, communicating and promoting the Maths Hub’s vision and ambition for maths teaching and maths teachers and the impact of its work
understanding the needs and priorities of schools in the area, including establishing effective links and regular contact with local authority officials, in order to help inform Maths Hub planning
clarifying the local leaders of maths education (LLME) position in the area, promoting LLME development opportunities in a targeted way, identifying potential LLME and ensuring targeted investment in their development
identifying leading schools and colleges that demonstrate effective practice and seeking to develop partnerships
The AMHL’s school or college, or business (where independent), will receive an appropriate secondment rate of funding from the Maths Hub.
